Restoration Project #64 - Commodore Amiga 500 I know. This isn't a VT-110 video recorder... but almost as old by now 😜 The Commodore Amiga 500 was a low-cost version of the Amiga 1000 that came out a bit before. It was shoved into a similar case as the (regular) Commodore 128: a desktop wedge. Because of the lower cost, it was immediately taken up as the new gaming computer and successor of the C-64, at least around here. Not sure how common it was in the US, but between the C-64 and PCs, around here it seems that every kid whos parents got them a gaming computer had an Amiga 500. The external drive connector is a 23 pin connector, which seems pin-compatible to the one of the Commodore PC-1 that I also restored some time ago. Back when I had one of these, I also had a 5.25" external floppy drive to connect. I wonder if those would still be around somewhere... For now, I managed to tweak the Gotek drive to fit and work(!) externally as a secondary disk. I really would like to keep the physical drive inside intact... As for the keyboard membrane issue, here's a bit more detail: 1.: I only remembered that I had scratched off some of the cover already before recording it, after I was almost done editing the video... whoops. So what you see in the video, is not quite how it looked originally. I added a note; 2.: The original track was broken with a similar "poke" through the insulation however. It is barely visible in some of the earlier footage, so: not my doing! 3.: The tear is exactly underneath one of the space bar balancing posts. What I think happened is that something (or someone) really severely impacted the keyboard, including the space bar. That smacked the balancing post into the membrane, breaking that track and also bent the backing plate. 0:00 Intro / Overview / First Peek 2:00 Opening Case 3:01 Keyboard Thoughts / Upper RF Shield 4:16 Floppy Removal / Lower RF Shield 5:28 Floppy Cover 6:43 Floppy Upper Head / Loading Mechanism 7:55 Keyboard Disassembly 9:59 Tin Fixups / Cap Catalog 10:58 Reseating Chips 11:48 Cleaning Floppy Drive 12:32 Assembling Floppy Drive 14:05 Recapping Floppy Drive / Upper Head Preliminary Mount 15:45 Loading Mechanism / Floppy Test 17:56 Recapping Keyboard PCB / Recapping Main PCB 19:42 Cleaning Keyboard Membrane / Assembling Keyboard 21:10 Wrapping it up! 22:46 Mouse?
