I was sad about it for awhile and it took me until now to feel ready to share it. Honestly the whole experience feels like a blur to me and I had to sit and write it out to make sure I had most of the details down. Sometimes I don't even feel like it's my story because I've tried to push it out of my mind. I was diagnosed with gestational hypertension / high blood pressure and they decided to induce me at 37 weeks because they were worried about preeclampsia. I have scoliosis and I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get an epidural, so if I couldn't I wanted to be able to prepare for natural labor and have pain management in place. The hospital assured me that I would be able to get one, but then the day of they told me it would be an issue [and by then I couldn't hire a doula etc]. The epidural failed and I ended up being completely numb from the legs down, but could feel every contraction. I couldn't do anything to get my mind of the pain- I couldn't walk, couldn't shower, couldn't even switch positions- I was in so much pain and unable to move because my body was dead weight. I felt like I was paralyzed. My labor was stalling, my baby was going into distress and I was so worried that I would end up getting a c section and that I would be able to feel it because they couldn't get my stomach to be numb. And I didn't want to put under for general anesthesia and miss the birth of my daughter. It felt like a lot of my worst fears were coming to life in this moment so it was a truly scary experience for me. I was so thankful for my doctor because she stayed for 24 hours to make sure she was with me through the entire delivery and until my daughter was born. She did everything possible to make it so I would be able to deliver my daughter and I was so grateful that she was there for me! We also had some amazing nurses that I was so thankful to have. When I finally was able to relax in the recovery room and hold my daughter, I told my husband that I wanted a million babies. If you're watching this video to prepare yourself for your own labor, just know that any experience and pain is worth it for your baby. These were the two scariest days of my life but they were all worth it for the joy and love I now have with our daughter.
