Troops in the Minnesota National Guard began preparing for the 53rd annual Norwegian Reciprocal Troop Exchange (NOREX), the longest lasting State Partnership between the U.S. and a NATO ally, on February 2nd, 2026. NOREX is an annual training event where Soldiers and Airmen from both forces fly overseas to their allied country and conduct winter survival and cold-weather operation training with each other. For the next two weeks, Soldiers from the Norwegian Home Guard, both the Rapid Reaction Force and Youth, arrived at Camp Ripley Training Center near Little Falls, Minnesota, and completed multiple training, cultural, and competition events. This included weapons ranges such as the M4A1 rifle, M17 pistol, and crew-served weapons, cultural meals, a biathlon, land navigation, simulated hand grenades, and more. This was also the first year the Norwegian Home Guard sent a dedicated medical platoon to complete the TC 8-800 Medical Validation Course at the Medical Simulation Training Center at Camp Ripley. February 15th, 2026, marked the end of the 53rd NOREX and the Norwegian’s returned home. NOREX53 was supported by Minnesota National Guard units such as C Company, 1st Combined Arms Battalion 194th Armor Regiment, Minnesota National Guard Medical Detachment, 34th Combat Aviation Brigade, 133rd Airlift Wing, Camp Ripley Training Site Unit, and North Carolina Air National Guard's 145th Airlift Wing.
