shmups are so damn cool ^^ ive been fascinated by the genre for a little while, modestly peeking at it from a distance; it took me until now to properly start getting into it ^ i learned about crs after checking out zeroranger (which i suppose would be the first shmup i played "consciously", so to speak :p). reading about the game and its influences made me realize the rich and extensive history of the genre, and i really wanted to start immersing myself in it :3 somewhat oblivious when it came to emulation, i first tried the windows version of crs during new years. the exact memories are blurry, but aside from loving the music i distinctly remember just being so excited about the prospect of "checking a shmup out", as silly as that might be to say. i knew nothing of how to score well in the game, i had no clue what "popcorn" referred to or what it meant that you got an "extend" every million points, but i was having lots of fun anyway =w= i think the farthest i got was like.. stage 4 or so :p months pass and it's august; i actually begin learning more about emulation and it stops being all so scary!! on a whim i try emulating the sharp 68k version of crs through retroarch - it works, and i figure its about time i actually try getting through the game in full. i check how people play it, read up about scoring strategies, and attempts start around the first week of august; i reach stage 6, the boss kicks my ass, and stage 0 finishes me off; i practice the bosses and stages in isolation when ive the time and actually start getting a hang of them; i keep trying still, i get more consistent at the triple item pickup, at finding routes in dense swarms of projectiles; i actually reach loop 2, it's a really exhilarating feeling; i keep trying still, and get a really great attempt on the morning of the 26th, which provides a huge motivation spike; and then, finally, i manage !! it's rough and messy and i make some stupid mistakes here and there, with the tlb draining almost all of my lives during its final phase. i make the same banal error of flying into projectiles that shouldve been trivial to avoid, i maybe get a bit too greedy for my own good sometimes. but there are moments im proud of too ! im happy with how most of the bosses went, and im happy with all the tougher moments where i managed to pull through. im happy with myself for persevering until the end. hearing that serene track during the ending, seeing it all fade to white while i feel my racing heart slow, knowing its over - that's a feeling i'll remember for long, i think im happy this is my first 1cc, and i hope its the first of more to come ^^
