Tech21 Shell Wallet vs. Griffin Identity Wallet: Who Wins?

Tech21 and Griffin both make great quality products and it is no surprise that the Griffin Identity Wallet and the Tech21 Classic Shell Wallet are both excellent cases. But how do they compare? Let’s look at them. Slimness: Neither is what you might call super-slim, but they are protective cases, so this is not surprising. However, the Griffin Identity Wallet, which bills itself as ‘Ultra Slim’, is actually noticeably slimmer than the Tech21 Classic Shell Wallet. Winner: Griffin Clasp: Both cases have good clasps that work well to keep the wallet cover closed, but the Griffin Identity’s magnetic clasp is particularly pleasing. Winner: Griffin Stand: Both cases have a stand functionality, but the Tech21 Classic Shell Wallet has a much sturdier and more stable stand. Winner: Tech21 Wallet: Neither case is going to truly allow you to replace your wallet, unless you are minimal beyond belief, but the Griffin can hold more cards than the Tech21. Winner: Griffin Construction: Both are nice, but the overall build quality is superior on the Tech21 Classic Shell Wallet. It seems extremely well made. Winner: Tech21 Protection: Here we are a bit limited in our information. Griffin is very straightforward, with a 4 foot drop protection rating printed on the box for the Identity Wallet. Tech21, on the other hand, makes many statements about its fantastic protection, but does not indicate a specific drop rating. Despite this, I think I have to give the advantage to Tech21 here, because their wallet cover is lined with impact protective D3O gel, while Griffin’s is just vinyl. As a phone’s screen is its most delicate part, this additional level of protection on Tech21’s part pushes them over into winning territory despite the lack of an actual drop protection rating. Winner: Tech21 Overall, these are both great wallet cases and either one would make an excellent case choice. Hope this was helpful!
