"Spratlys: Mga Isla ng Kalayaan (The Islands of Freedom)" is a documentary on the maritime disputes in the South China Sea, filmed at the height of tension between China and the Philippines. This is a journey across the 9 island detachments of the Philippines scattered across the West Philippine Sea, where soldiers and civilians alike are trying to make do with meager facilities, only to cement the country's claim on the disputed areas. It shows actual footage of China's aggression in the West Philippine Sea, from harassment of vessels, to the illegal extraction of endangered marine resources. It shows how - despite its determination - the Philippines remains militarily weak in the West Philippine Sea, a fact that does not escape other claimant countries. This documentary was Finalist in the 2015 New York Festivals.
