If the uterus is big on ultrasound, we have to divide these patients on two different types, whether the patient is pregnant or not pregnant. If the patient is pregnant , the uterus is big because of presence of pregnancy , it can be either a single pregnancy, multiple pregnancy or excess fluid around the baby. If the uterus is big in nonpregnant patient, sometimes there is swelling on the uterus and because of the hormonal influence the swelling is divided into two types. There is one condition called adenomyosis where the muscle mass has increased and the uterus has become bi in size. Then there is another condition called tumors of the uterus called as fibroid uterus. Because of multiple fibroids, the uterus is big in size. If the uterus is abnormal in shape then we have to see what kind of abnormality it is. Sometimes it is due to the congenital anomaly that is presenting the patient right from the birth. The uterus can be single called unicornuate, or uterus can be double or divided into two parts called as bicornuate uterus. Sometimes the uterus has a vertical septum in the cavity called as septate uterus.
