Okay! I didn't get this on the first try so now I gotta re-explain the tech for this game in the description lmao I feel like the arcade version of Vapor Trail is not very well documented in terms of superplays, if you look on youtube you'll find plenty of results for the Genesis / Mega Drive version instead, which is probably an easier game. But what about the woefully unpopular arcade version? Well... there's an obscure bit of tech for this game that's pretty hilarious. I saw this on an upload to the MAME Action Replay Page back in 2003, but never tried to replicate it. Here's how it works - pick the Seylen ship, which is the fastest ship but all its weapons pretty much suck ass normally. Grab the D (Defender) item, and the S icon which gives you special armor and changes your shot type. Stop firing for a second, then start mashing button 1 to fire and then immediately detonate the armor with button 2, and DON'T STOP MASHING button 1. This gives the Defender shot a ridiculous rate of fire that can't be achieved otherwise, and lets you lay waste to pretty much everything on the screen for the rest of the stage. The catches are: you can't take a hit (yes it is possible for enemy bullets to slip in amidst the chaos), and you CAN'T STOP MASHING. If your rate of fire slows down too much, you permanently lose the rapid fire rate, until you have a chance to get the S armor again. I did this run WITHOUT AUTOFIRE too, continually manually mashing through the stages. I wanted there to be SOME sort of challenge to this, with proper autofire I think this could be a ridiculously easy clear, and I didn't want to cheat myself out of it. Yes, my arm feels fine now. Minor correction - I may have stated in this video that the information about this glitch was nowhere to be found in the English speaking world, but ohfivepro tweeted about it in September 2020.
