PANDIT AJOY CHAKRABARTY, son and disciple of Shri Ajit Chakrabarty, received formal education in music from Rabindra Bharati University and became the only fellow of Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata to receive a gold medal. Apart from his father, he learnt music under the tutelage of great gurus like Late Shri Pannalal Samanta, Late Shri Kanaidas Bairagi, Late Guru Jnanprakash Ghosh and Late Ustad Munawar Ali khan. He Learnt Dhrupad from Late Uday Bhattacharya and renditions in different gharanas from various maestros. In the lighter music arena Pandit Chakrabarty is perhaps the only exponent of classical vocal music who has mastered the art of Kirtan rendition, Bengali folk music and Rabindra Sangeet from the experts in the respective fields.
