LOTUS ELISE R Special The exterior of the Lotus Elise was lightened while retaining the original appearance with original design lightweight aluminum wheels, a large dry carbon rear diffuser, engine hood, sports mirrors, and acrylic windows. For the interior, the driver's seat was replaced with a one-off dry carbon bucket seat, and a steering wheel and gauges were added to check the mechanical condition. The chassis was replaced with adjustable Penske damper units and suspension arms to match the lowered ride height for an ideal alignment setting. For the power unit, the original engine was lowered, and a 2L fully tuned unit newly built by a specialist was installed along with a one-off titanium muffler. This power unit has a powerful, strong, and agile acceleration performance with no torque valleys from low speeds to the rev limit above 9500 rpm, similar to the racing unit of the first generation BMW M3. The engine characteristics of the powerful exhaust sound and excellent axle response provide blissful driving pleasure in this special lightweight machine. Handling benefits from wheel alignment, which is optimized for the highly rigid chassis and supple road-holding suspension, and delivers handling that combines the steering response of a formula car with the tenacious high-grip of a touring car. Not only was it able to take corners at ridiculous speeds, it showed no understeer or oversteer unless overdriven. And the racing car-like pedal touch and rigid brakes featured AP Racing calipers, special brake pads, and floating disc brakes. This Elise was matured and perfected from the perspective of an owner who knows the beauty of sports cars and still owns and operates a great collection of new cars.
