I learned this song from Shiela Kay Adams of the Sodom Laurel community in Madison County, NC. She taught me this song after we’d been playing together four a few weeks, in Hendersonville, NC, The song is usually played in D tuning (aDADE), but I’m playing it in C tuning (gCGCD) which, on a banjo, is the same tuning just down a step. This banjo is one that I bought from someone who was selling it to thin out his collection. The pot and neck are original 1910s Vega, but are different serial numbers. The neck and dowel are 30xxx from 1910-1913, and the pot is 37xxx from 1915-1920. It’s probably the loudest banjo I own now. It’s string with medium tension Nylgut synthetic strings. This banjo would’ve originally come with gut strings. I’ve been playing for just over two years now. I’ve only recently learned this tune, so please excuse a few mistakes.
