Sree Mookuthala Bhagavathi Temple The famous Sanskrit scholar and poet Sri Melpathur Bhattathiripad after writing Narayaneeyam and getting cured of his rheumatic disease, came to Mookkuthala for worship- ping the Devi to attain salvation on the advice of Lord Guruvayurappa. Here he worshipped ‘Mookkolamma’ for twelve years and in course of this period wrote ‘Seepadasapthathy’ containing seventy stanzas (slokas) adorning the ‘lotus like feet’ of Devi and attained salvation. He also wrote another sixteen stanzas of poetry adorning Devi from head to feet. At the end of this he attained ‘Moksha’ from this place and bodily went to heaven. The spot where he was believed to taken to heaven is kept protected by construct- ing a basement and a statue of Melpthur on the basement, on the way from Melekkavu to Keezhekkavu. Sree Uddanda Sasthrikal another great poet and scholar of Sanskrit, once visited Mookkuthala temple to worship the Goddess. During his prayers he composed two lines of stanza starting from Sambharitha Bhoori Kripamabasubhamangam Shumbhathuchiranthanamidam thava mathantha.... worship that place should be blessed with knowledge, progeny and prosperity. Shankara installed the deity there, which is now known as Melekkaavu temple. Other Temples The temples in which Shankaracharya did consecration in Mookkuthala include Raktheswaram Shiva temple, Kolanchery Narasimha temple (which is the first and last temple in which Adi Shankara installed Narasimha), Karuvatta Sastha temple. It is one of the rarest places where one can find temples of all deities and thus a blessed place. It is believed that the poojas performed by Brahmins to goddess Bhadra made her extremely powerful for the devotees to approach her. At the request of the devotees, Adi Parashakthi requested Bhadra to change her seat two feet to the west where the present Kannenkaavu temple is situated. The area belonged to Azvaancherry Thampraakkal and were happy to take ownership and responsibility of the Kannenkaavu temple. They had to bring an Elayathu (another Brahmin category) from Kochi to conduct pooja at Kannenkaavu and calm down Bhadra. Vazha Leaf and Mookkuthala Kallu The Melekkaavu temple is still situated within a forest with dense, tall trees. Vazha tree is famous here and the leaves of this tree is believed to have a special protective power. Those who keep a leaf under the pillow while sleep is still believed to be free from all bad dreams. Mookkuthala Kallu (Stone) is very auspicious. Only one stone comes out from within the shrine in a day from the Melekkaavu temple. Wearing it is believed to give protection from all untoward in life and very good for prosperity. #bhagavathytemple #mukkuthalamelekkavu #malapuram #changaramkulam #devitemple #vazha #sankaranararyanatemple #sankaracharya #devi #narasimhanayak Music credit...... • Ayigiri Nandini Instrumental - Navadurgas ...
