Sergei Lyapunov - Transcendental etude Op. 11 No. 10 Performed by Marco Rapetti: • Lyapunov : Lezghinka Etude d'executi... Lyapunov wrote this opus as a tribute to Franz Liszt; he composed 12 etudes for the keys Liszt had left out in his Transcedental studies. Lezghinka was inspired by Islamey and was therefore subtitled "style Balakirev". Balakirev got his inspiration for Islamey after a trip to the Caucasus, where the Lezghinka dance originates from. Islamey heavily inspired Lyapunov, who went to St. Petersburg in 1885 to seek Mily Balakirev, becoming the most important member of Balakirev's latter-day circle. Balakirev took Lyapunov under his wing, and oversaw his early compositions as closely as he had done with the members of his circle during the 1860s, now known as The Five. Balakirev remained the dominant influence in the creative life of Lyapunov. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergei_...)
