Product Review EVO-STICK Exterior Wood Glue

Product Review EVO-STICK Exterior Wood Glue As one of my next projects is to make an outdoor wooden table I wanted a wood glue that would be suitable, and that would dry clear in colour. After a bit of online searching I found the EVO-STICK wood glue for exterior use. Having used a few EVO-STICK products, and not been disappointed, I must admit that I was fairly happy to purchase this product. That said, I didn’t want to build my table using a product I hadn’t used before, just in case it did fail. To use the glue you just have to twist the very top of the bottle nozzle. The product label states that the glue dries clear but the wet colour is white. Drying time is given as 24 hours. I used the glue to bond pieces of wood together in two different ways. The wood used was a hardwood. First method; Bond two pieces of wood, placed on top of one another, to form a right angle. Second method; Line up two pieces of wood, one on top of the other, to form a right angle and drill through both pieces. I inserted an 8mm x 30mm wooden dowel into each of the 2 holes. Prior to inserting the dowels, and securing the pieces of wood together, the glue was applied. Both joints had weight placed on top and left to dry overnight. Actual drying time ended up being 26 hours. To check for failure of the glue I basically hit the wooden sections with a hammer. The pieces of wood stuck one on top of the other did break apart leaving glue still bonded to the individual pieces of wood. Some shards of wood remained bonded. With hindsight, as the wood was fairly bowed, it was probably not a very fair test although it was realistic for how most people would use the product and probably the grade of wood used. The pieces of wood that had been stuck together with the addition of wooden dowels did remain firmly stuck together. As I intended to use the wood glue for exterior purposes I thought I would test out the glued sections with water exposure. A rather extreme test, but I submerged the wooden joints in a bucket of water. This test was to satisfy my own curiosity. The wooden joints remained in water for 9 hours. Where the timber joint had failed under normal hammer conditions, leaving the glue exposed, parts of the glue could be scraped off. On removal from the water, the timber joint with the addition of wooden dowels still looked and held solid. Even after using a hammer to try to prise the pieces of wood apart the wooden sections remained firmly stuck together. One notable change to the glue, after it had been wet for the prolonged period, was that the glue went back to being white in colour. The colour change only happened after the prolonged submerging in water and didn’t appear to happen following initial limited water exposure. After my crude test I can say is that the EVO-STIK Exterior Wood glue worked well and will definitely be good enough for the project I have planned. Great product that does what it says. For clarity: I have no association or vested interest in EVO-STIK or the shop I purchased it from which was ‪@Screwfix‬ If you like what you have seen then please subscribe to my channel.
