I was contacted by the director and invited to produce a large portion of the soundtrack. For a number of reasons, the documentary never came to life in the way it was originally envisioned, though an iteration of it was eventually handed off (or sold?) to Sabukaru, where it premiered last year (and was subsequently removed), unsanctioned by Nujabes' estate. The soundtrack itself was uploaded back in 2010 by the director to help promote the film, without a distribution agreement or plan in place. Thousands of people downloaded the album for free on Bandcamp, and it was eventually uploaded to YouTube...it's only home for the past 15 years, where my songs alone have quietly racked up hundreds of thousands of plays. I can’t speak for the other artists involved, but I’ve never made a cent. So now, I’m reclaiming these tracks and giving them a proper home. These songs were made in 2008–2010, when I was only a few years into my beatmaking journey. They’re raw, imperfect, and a window into that era.
