PLEASE NOTE THE TRIAL SCENE IN THIS CHAPTER CONTAINS DISTRESSING MATERIAL NOT SUITABLE FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN As famine and terrible weather take their toll, Napoleon takes drastic action. Food is requisitioned and trade opened with the human world via Mr Whymper. Adapted from Chapter X. Adapted text and accompanying materials free to access here: https://animal-farm.eslreading.org/- Time codes This adaptation of Animal Farm maintains the ten chapter structure and stays close to the original text. Complete condensed & original versions, plus presentation & learning activities here: https://animal-farm.eslreading.org/. Ideal for classroom use and/or for exams like GCSE English literature is an excellent bridge to the original, which can be cross-referenced here: https://tinyurl.com/52utjev9. Each video has subtitles, plus YouTube 'chapters' for ease of use. A complete playlist for the (adapted) story is here: https://tinyurl.com/4hcfhsbu The adapted text focuses on telling the story rather than highlighting the Russian Revolution parallels. These can be introduced once the central narrative is established. While staying close to the spirit of the original text, I have reduced length of the text by about 50%. I have also shortened paragraphs and sentences, plus replaced reported speech with dialogue where this is feasible. Well known quotations remain unaltered - cross-check with the original text here: https://tinyurl.com/52utjev9 I have tried to reduce the number of words/phrases/references that will be unfamiliar to contemporary young readers. I have also reducing the use of passive voice and authorial intervention in the narration. About the editor - I write graded reading & listening materials for English language learners & reluctant readers. My titles include adaptations like: The Picture of Dorian Gray (Penguin) Washington Square (OUP) & Gulliver's Travels - Further Voyages (OUP) and original stories including Love by Design (Macmillan) More details here. https://www.eslreading.org/about.html These materials are free to use and receive no financial sponsorship.
