I took the back sinew from the bull elk I killed this September and backed the osage bow that killed him. Backing this bow with sinew drew it into a reflex and added about six pounds to the draw weight. The standard for measuring speed of a traditional bow, whether it be a selfbow, longbow, or recurve, is to shoot an arrow weighing 10 grains per pound of draw weight. This combination is right at that. This bow and arrow have the following specs. 57lb bow, 29 inch draw, 565 grain arrow. Although it is possible to build sinew backed bows that will shoot a lot faster than this, the speed of this bow in combination with it's durable and accurate design make it a very practical hunting bow that rivals the performance of any modern material traditional bow.
