Battle of the Bamboo 2017 - Kapwa Loyola

BOTB 2017 2nd Place Winner The Mangyan (out of the eight tribes, the four that wil be represented are the indigenous groups: Tadyawan, Tau-buid, Buhid, and Hanunuo) reside on the island of Mindoro - an agricultural province. The tribes believe that there are evil forest spirits called, "Labong" that feast on the souls of the unfortunate who cross their path. One forest spirit in particular is not as devious, nor scary. This spirit is called, "Banai" and has taken a particular interest to children. "Banai" is a beautiful woman that lures children away from their village into the forest. It appears that they are not harmed by this spirit, but instead are protected. The dance was choreographed by Lauren Ho, Jennine Lomibao, and Melody Beltran with music composed by Zachary Balitaan. A special thanks to the Kapwa Cultural Coords who brought together this amazing piece and also to the performers who brought it to life! #WeAretheMangyanPeople
