The Politics Of Myanmar’s Changing Tea Culture. Rangoon Tea House is an upmarket eatery in Yangon, opened by Htet Myet Oo in 2014, two years after he graduated from City University in London. Htet Myet Oo was 22 years old when he returned to his native Myanmar after finishing his studies in London in 2012. “I came back at a time when the country was beginning to open up, but nothing was yet for certain,” he says. He and all the others who came back around this period all had the same mindset: to not only be a part but to be one of the pioneers of change for the better. With a couple of co-founders, he set up a restaurant — the Rangoon Tea House (RTH) — on the ground floor of a historic department store on Yangon's Pansodan Street. It's a tea shop, all right, but it also serves a mix of Indian, Chinese, and ethnic-inspired dishes to locals and tourists alike. As Htet says, “showing the cultural diversity and the history of the country we live in.” mitv - Myanmar International
