A permanent feeling that you are on an island. A special walk. It started to become a pole of attraction in the late '80s, while the big bang happened in the' 90s. Microlimano has changed its character but remains one of the most emblematic and stable tourist areas of Piraeus. In ancient times it was called the port of Munich, which, according to the prevailing reputation, arose from the hero Munich, who occupied the hill (today's Kastella). The Byzantines called it Fanari, probably due to the existence of a lighthouse at its entrance. And then during the Turkish occupation they stuck the Turkolimano resin to him. After all, the mooring of Ottoman ships was frequent here. Today, a good place to start your walk here, is from the Peace and Friendship Stadium. Shot around several cafes, bars and restaurants which always give a multitude of options for all tastes. In fact, Microlimano has two main roads. The coast of Koumoundourou and the coast of Dilaveri. The second was once a real coast, since until the 70's there were rocks and the sea. Today the tone is set by the youth and the youth, the big cafes and the summers and the loud volume of the music. Koumoundourou hosts all the restaurants and fish taverns and several cafes. In essence, however, the "starting point" of Microlimano is Panagia Myrtidiotissa which is reflected in the waters of the port. The foundation began in 1930 and was completed within a few months. Today's modern was built in the 1950s in Byzantine style. As soon as you enter the heart of Microlimano and look up, you will be enchanted by this picturesque and extremely island image with the houses amphitheatrically built on the hill, while next to you you will see anchored yachts and small boats. The dozens of shops that operate along the beach complete this image and island feel. Of course, the fun character that Mikrolimano has now is not the one that existed until fifteen years ago. The once traditional taverns with ouzo appetizers and wicker chairs have now given way to modern restos, and mainstream cafes. The important thing is that recently, this small painted harbor was reborn through a major renovation that gave an impressive facelift to the historic area. The most obvious change is the beautiful port "got rid" of the arbitrary constructions-pergolas of the shops and now the pedestrian street satisfactory 5 meters wide by the sea is free for everyone to enjoy. The most idyllic moment in general to visit Microlimano is early in the afternoon. The colors of the sunset are mixed with the smaller and larger lights from the shops, making the small port look like a theatrical setting in a painting by the Piraeus painter Tsarouchis, who was also a big fan of Microlimanos.
