Took the time this spring 2025 to redo the roof and interior of the old farm chicken coop building. With no future plans of ever keeping chickens in it . Lol . When my son and I started the job, you could see through the roof in several places and it held more water than it kept out. As it was one of the old buildings from family Homestead, I wanted to try my best to keep it. A took alot of hard work and determination but together my son Slate, and I tackled it . inch by inch you could say . It was so close to completely falling over and collapsing in on itself. A project way overdue for sure . First we used the tractor and front end loader from the outside and pushed the building to the north to straighten it up. Then I installed a 3/4 inch sheet of plywood on the inside and nailed it every inch along the wall studs and top header to keep the building straight and tall like it once was in the past. We rebuilt the roof, and rafter system as best we could replacing anything rotted or structurally compromised supports as required . After all the wood and a few extra supports were up and fastened we moved onto installing some recycled roof tin. Then came the large task of Shovelling out all the old manure and cleaning out the inside to later level it as best we could. We worked for hrs Until our backs were sore. Then I came up with the idea of making a hardwood pallet supported wooden floor. We finished that and then we did the interior walls. Sheeted it 4 feet up from the bottom all the way around the inside to give it some stability and strength for the years to come. We are very happy with the end result and I think it will prove a useful building. We also took the time to replace all the broken glass and frames from the south facing windows and to also straighten and seal up the door. A door that hasn’t closed in several years.. Thank you for taking the time to watch the short video. I didn’t capture every single detail. But it does a good job of showing just how close it was to losing the structure and what we did to save it for many years to come. Thank you for watching the video I made for you all. Please share it and if you haven’t already please subscribe to my channel .. Your support is much appreciated, Thank you…… God bless.
