Whole plants have lots of fiber and your previous diet was poor in this nutrient. Thus, your digestive system is deficient in the microbiota needed to break down those fibers and you can experience painful and embarrassing effects. Fiber is Key, and I mean KEY, when it comes to satiety, which means the fullness you feel after a meal - therefore, will cure your cravings and you won't feel the need to snack between meals. Plus, fiber has 0 calories, so it dilutes the overall calories of a meal. Which promotes weight loss by lowering the calorie intake. No, you won't eat in deficit. But you will REMOVE all the calorie surplus you had on your high-fat, low-fiber diet, the surplus that caused you to put on weight in the first place. That is why is all worth it to have it in your food. The transition period with the respected digestive issues won't take forever, usually with most people 3-5 weeks.
