(25 Sep 1995) Serbo-Croat/Nat Croatian President Franjo Tudjman visited Paris Monday for talks with French President Jacques Chirac. The leaders talked about increasing co-operation between the two countries and pushing forward the peace process. Tudjman called for NATO to base troops in former Yugoslavia when the UN pulls its peacekeeping forces out later this year. With his foreign minister preparing for Tuesday's peace talks in New York - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman arrived in Paris Monday to meet his French counterpart. President Jacques Chirac was careful to stress that France had neither allies nor enemies in former Yugoslavia. There are currently several thousand French troops with the U-N in Bosnia. Chirac called for the recognition of Bosnia within its original borders and condemned ethnic cleansing by all sides. Croat troops are currently in action in northern Bosnia, cutting off the Serb-held town of Banja Luka from the rest of Bosnian-Serb territory. Tudjman said he wanted to reincorporate the Serb-held part of Croatia - Eastern Slavonia - by peaceful means - or by force if that failed. He also asked for NATO troops to be based in former Yugoslavia once U-N troops pull out. SOUNDBITE: In Serbo-Croat "It is obvious that we need to find a solution to replace ineffective UN forces by a useful army such as NATO. We have to make sure that this peace would be guaranteed by effective forces. One should impose peace on all the sides who do not accept it" SUPER CAPTION: Franjo Tudjman, President of Croatia Both sides called for Franco-Croatian links to be strengthened.
