Pietrapaola is a small village located in Calabria, in the south of Italy, on the slopes of the Greek Sila. The huge rock around which the small town is built creates a nostalgic, melancholic atmosphere. In a mixture of history, art, culture and religion, Pietrapaola offers to its curious visitors a unique experience. For the third year in a raw, me and my friends chose the region of Calabria as our summer holidays destination. A trip marked by contradictions. The natural landscape, for example, famous for the deep-blue sea, the mountains, and the national parks, is often ruined by numerous “Eco-Mostri”, which the Collins dictionary defines as “ugly and environmentally damaging buildings”. Or, mostly every summer and despite the region being one of the richest in water in the entire country, local and rural inhabitants have to face with water scarcity issues. Progress and modernity are in constant fight with traditions and heritage. However, the quality of food and the kindness of the people make you forget everything.
