Most of the original game is played in total silence, except for Indy's footsteps and the occasional sounds accompanying certain actions. Please see one of the numerous playthrough videos (like this one • Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade | Full ... ) for reference. The FM Towns version ( • Indiana Jones The Last Crusade ScummVM FM ... ) despite it being CD based and in theory capable of including a full soundtrack, actually features only a few short loops (for example, the first part of "Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra" continuously plays in the castle section). This might seem like a strange idea for a video since it obviously does not emulate the authentic experience of playing the game, if you think this isn't your cup of tea please just ignore it and refrain from hitting that loathsome "dislike" button. The idea was born from a comment in the older Last Crusade video ( • Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: The Gr... ) where it was suggested that some music could be added to break the almost complete silence. With the movie being one of my all time favourites, this was done primarily out of love. Most section where actual game music appears (namely, the intro screen, Venice, the Castle entrance, Berlin, the pianist in the Zeppelin, the Grail Temple) are largely left intact. Of course what music to include and where is highly subjective and depends on personal preference, it goes without saying that other fans doing something similar would approach it quite differently. What you see is my own apprehension which might differ than yours. I'd love to see comments offering constructive criticism and feedback including track suggestions for different music and edits in certain spots. There is also a "dual longplay" comparison video of the VGA and Amiga/EGA versions played side-by-side being in the "works", so to speak, which also includes cinematic music to fill the silence, so any suggestions to improve will be heeded. Music used is obviously by John Williams from the film's soundtrack, music from the early Medal of Honor games by Michael Giacchino (these scores were very similar in style and tone to John Williams' Indy scores) plus source music related to the Nazi parts. Lili Marleen is an anachronism, but then, many things in Indy are anachronisms (e.g. book burnings took place before 1938 and were not the major event attended by all high ranking nazis as depicted in the movie, while major Nazi Party rallies took place in Nuremberg, not Berlin). But, Indy has always been about pulp adventures in historical settings, with some verisimilitude, not 100% accuracy. These pulp Nazis are not quite the same with historical ones. Incidentally, the game gets even some of the film's universe wrong (see the dialogue with the second soldier in the castle). The Gestapo guy in Raiders of the Lost Ark was named Toht, not Dietrich. Dietrich was the name of the Wehrmacht colonel. No music from Raiders of the Lost Ark or Temple of Doom was used, and I am not quite sure whether that was a mistake or not. The iconic "Map Room/ Ark Theme" from Raiders is very characteristic and would maybe feel too out of place in the Last Crusade. Thing is, I tried to avoid including the Raiders March too much to avoid any potential copyright strikes. Anyway, any music suggestions to improve this would be most welcome.
