In this lesson for high school students, we consider the steps of the water cycle as a means of understanding the impact of Earth being a closed system. Because water cannot escape, it cycles endlessly through stages of evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and groundwater. All ecosystems on Earth rely on the water cycle to keep the hydrosphere functioning.
