Season's Greetings to all the rubbish truck drivers out there. Christmas Day is often the only public holiday many drivers get off and I am sure there are lots of drivers who are still working Christmas Day as well; thank you all for your tireless hard work. The following video is for education and entertainment purposes only. After a successful week of filming in early October this year, I went out the following week to get some additional footage. To my surprise, a quick video of a unique pickup location soon turned into something way more special. Without warning, the truck I was filming parks up and the driver gets out; I recognise the sound of the truck's park breaks coming on and it usually a bad sign for me with some drivers not wanting to be filmed. But this was the complete opposite with this driver asking if I'd like to go for a ride with him. I of course jumped at this unique opportunity! Riding up front on the "driver's side" of this dual controlled truck, join us in our conversations with this 20-minute ride-along while the driver talks about his job and emptying bins. A massive thank you to the driver! This was unexpected but such a fantastic experience. The footage is not fantastic, nor is the audio but I'm sure many will enjoy this unique video; filming out the front window with one camera while also holding the action camera to film the monitors was a bit of a challenge. I have tried my best to provide accurate subtitles of the conversations we had to help provide some insight into this driver's experiences and work-life.
