#PeterTosh #MysticMan #RootsReggae "Mystic Man" is the title track on Peter Tosh's fourth solo studio album. Mystic Man album was released in 1979 by Rolling Stones Records and EMI. Peter Tosh's previous album (Bush Doctor) was the first reggae album I ever purchased (Record Hole in San Antonio!) and I became a lifelong fan. It's been awhile since we featured a reggae track, so here's one for the fans! It makes me sad that all the classic reggae music is fading away even faster then the classic rock music. Sly and Robbie were among the most influential musicians, not just in reggae either of course.....I tried to feature them in the viz. RIP Robbie Love you, Sly! PLEASE LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, SHARE, etc.....if you want to see more and especially this track if you want to see more reggae. Thanks to everyone and love from Texas! ❤️Speaking of classic rock....stay tuned for some!🎸 There is no ad revenue coming to this channel from the videos (which are all rightfully claimed by the artists and labels) and your Patreon support is appreciated and critical to be able to make more videos. The lyrics reject processed lifestyles and assert his alignment with nature, righteousness, and spirituality. Musically, it’s classic late-70s roots reggae — deep basslines, steady skank guitar, warm organ fills, and Tosh’s commanding vocal delivery. "Mystic Man" is a spiritual self-portrait in which Tosh rejects Western materialism, processed foods, alcohol, and societal corruption, instead embracing a pure and natural way of life guided by Rastafari principles. Peter Tosh, one of the original members of The Wailers alongside Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer, was more than just a reggae musician — he was a militant truth-teller, human rights activist, and a fierce advocate for African liberation and the legalization of cannabis. His solo career fused roots reggae with sharp political commentary, often carrying a harder edge than Marley’s more mainstream offerings. From Wiki: Released as Tosh’s fourth studio album, Mystic Man followed the success of Bush Doctor (1978) and marked his continued relationship with Rolling Stones Records. The album blends traditional roots reggae with social and political messaging, while also reflecting Tosh’s deeply personal Rastafarian faith. The album combining roots reggae’s groove with bold philosophical lyrics. Though not as commercially successful as some of his earlier work, the album endures as a deeply authentic expression of Tosh’s worldview. The album's cover photo, by Annie Leibovitz, shows Tosh's head in profile, with his head cupped in his hands, as if in prayer. Sw. Anand Prahlad, in his book Reggae Wisdom, suggested that on this and previous album Bush Doctor, Tosh was seeking to portray himself in the role of "healer and prophet". The album peaked at number 6 in Italy, 17 in Germany, 25 in Austria, 27 in Sweden, 44 in the Netherlands, and at 123 on the Billboard 200. The album was reissued in 2002 with five bonus tracks HD Remastered Audio is fantastic! Thanks Sparky! Please listen on good system or quality headphones and make sure you get the opportunity to hear these songs sounding better than ever before! Legacy While Mystic Man didn’t achieve the commercial success of Bob Marley’s contemporaneous work, it has endured as one of Tosh’s most definitive statements — a fusion of reggae groove and uncompromising philosophy. It remains a favorite among reggae purists for its authentic roots sound and ideological clarity.
