A playthrough of the exclusive hidden character Sektor in Dreamcast version of Mortal Kombat 4; Mortal Kombat Gold. Sektor's moves: http://www.mortalkombatonline.com/con... Sektor is the exclusive hidden character added to MKGold. And he's broken. Extremely, extremely broken. I mentioned that quality control in this series seemed to slack after MK2, and I still stand by that, especially in this case. He has four special moves, three of them extremely broken. His single missile is pointless, because his double missile is just as easy to pull off and has no repurcussions for doing so. What's more, the character is quite lazy in design, given three of his moves and just a variant of firing a missile. Lazily designed, and seemingly lazily tested. A double missile can easily be followed up with another double missile. Over and over again, until the opponent is dead. They're incredibly easy to cancel into one another, and there are no drawbacks to doing so either. His homing missile is even more broken. There's no limit to how many can be fired, so you can just continue to cancel them into one another, and firing off a bunch of them consecutively. This means that if the opponent falls down, when they get back up they are then likely to be hits with numerous consecutive missiles. There's no way for them to survive so many hits at once, particularly because there's no damage limit, hence they're just dead, as in the case of when I fighting Goro. Even if they attempted to block them all they'd still be fucked, because Sektor can just pepper them endlessly with missiles if the player's timing is good. Then we have Sektor's last special move, his teleport punch. This thing is completely broken. It can be executed, like with his other moves, endlessly. If you hit the opponent with it, you can just teleport punch them over and over again, and there isn't shit they can do about it. Were it not for the damage limit, they'd be completely screwed, and hence the "damage limit" just seems like an abritrary and last-ditch effort to attempt to balance the game in some way. Of course, it doesn't apply to Sektor's missile attacks (which are also ranged attack of course), making Sektor as a character completely broken in the right hands, as one successful hit from him means he's essentially already won. Lastly, Sektor's weapon is a gun. A fucking gun. It doesn't do much damage, but it is yet another ranged attack in a melee fighting game. What's more, it can be fired endlessly, again with no real limitation, and can still end up destroying the opponent with ease. All in all, Sektor is an oddity in a game which is already something of an oddity. I don't think the MK team ever made programming choices as poor as this again for a hidden character, though I might be wrong. Still, Sektor's an incredibly interesting anomaly at the very least, and certainly worth trying out. Also, they gave Sektor an ending in this game, and it's a total downer. I'm not sure why they'd even make something that depressing, it seemed wholly superfluous. Again, so many strange design choices.
