Amartya Sen presented the Owen J. Roberts Memorial Lecture in Constitutional Law on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at University of Pennsylvania Law School. Amartya Sen, Thomas W. Lamont University Professor & Professor of Economics and Philosophy at Harvard University, will present a lecture titled Language, Law, and Human Rights on Thursday, April 11 at 4:30 PM in Golkin Hall's Fitts Auditorium. According to Mr. Sen, constitutional interpretations depend on the nature of the language in which the provisions are expressed. However, the conventions that make us understand any language can evolve and change over time. His lecture will address questions such as, how should this concern be taken into account in the understanding of constitutional demands? Going further, what light (if any) do such inquires throw on the idea of human rights?
