Common Galaxias are one of the most commonly seen freshwater fish in south-eastern Australia, especially in lower elevations near the coast. They spawn amongst vegetation along the waters edge during spring tides, and then the larval fish spend several months at sea as 'whitebait' before returning to freshwater to mature.
