A two-hour drive west from Mexico City will take you to where the upper class spends their weekends, Valle de Bravo. Surrounded by picturesque mountains and nestled against the beautiful Lake Avándaro, Valle de Bravo is a small town with traditional charm and scenic views. It’s no surprise that the town is described as one of Mexico’s magic cities (pueblos mágicos), with its slender, cobblestone streets, colonial architecture, and lively, welcoming community. Coming from Mexico City, Valle de Bravo feels quaint and small, but there’s plenty to do. We opted for a ferry ride around the lake, but you can also visit nearby natural wonders or, for a bird’s-eye view, paraglide over the city. Valle de Bravo felt like stepping into another world, and since it’s such an easy getaway, I couldn’t recommend it more to anyone with some time on their hands while visiting Mexico City.
