The poor relation: Social value in conservation and CHM, Keith Emerick (English Heritage) Tuesday, 12 March 2013, 5.15pm A presentation of current research on the subject of social value. This seminar will look at approaches to social value, the historic use of conservation as social welfare in the USA and England, the current limitations on the effective use of social value and conclude by looking forward to the possibilities for social value through health and well being agendas and the desirability of changing the culture of the heritage sector to privilege social values. Keith Emerick is English Heritage Inspector of Ancient Monuments for North Yorkshire and the City of York. He specialises in CHM, all aspects of community heritage initiatives and the promotion of craft skills. Keith has worked in Romania and the Occupied West Bank and is currently doing the final edits of the publishable version of his PhD thesis whilst also preparing a paper on social value for the International Journal of Heritage Studies.
