This is a tool assisted speedrun which uses TAS tools such as frame advance and save states to play optimally. This is a game I played a ton of as a kid. Glad to finally get around to making this. This TAS completes all cups and collects all the mystery car pickups. I also input a cheat code at the end which I believe is the only way to unlock the final car on PS1. Points of note: I only finish 5 of the 9 races as I am able to come last in half of the races in Hot Wheels Cup and Secret Car Cup as I can manipulate the RNG as to tie for first, which still gives the win. I collect the mystery cars in each race before aborting. The unorthodox car choices for Hot Wheels Cup are to manipulate the AI cars. Certain cars seem to always finish first (Stealth/Splittin Image) or last (Gulch Stepper/Super Van) which helps with making it possible to win with one less race than RTA. Also required 4x4 cars for certain shortcuts/mystery cars too. I had to slow down at the end of Test Track as I got a glitch where Rock Buster would finish half a second after me despite being a lap behind. I needed it to finish 4th or worse for the cup points to work, so this required me to wait for it to be further ahead. Resetting after collecting Sol-Aire CX4 is faster if you have enough turbos as it respawns you down the bottom, however due to lack of turbos this would’ve been slower - doing a trick in the airtime entering the secret passage would have likely worked. Useful powerups in this run are the Gyro, which provides better stunt ability, the Super Brakes, which are used to get into the waterfall on Dawn Encounter, Super Handling, which sets top speed at 180 for any car with better handling and losing less speed on corners, and Turbo Boost, giving an extra turbo. Points of Improvement: Finding a better mix of cars that provide more speed but still allow for winning the Hot Wheels Cup in 3 race finishes. As I have a better understanding of the tracks and boost spacing I could save up to 3 seconds on some tracks. Changing the AI difficulty to higher so that I'm less likely to catch up to them and crucial powerups will be more likely available. I plan on doing an All Tracks TAS in the future, to showcase the full potential of TAS using the best cars, Twinmill/Twinmill II.
