It works by plugging your charger in it's base, so it can be just a regular charging cord, not a type C. If your phone is QI, then it charges while holding it. If not, just plug your phone in instead, and use it as a holder. As a holder, it is pretty fabulous. There is a sensor when you put your phone in that closes it, clasping your phone. There is a side button to press that releases your phone. The bottom has a clear rest, that is adjustable to hold the bottom of your phone. The sides are padded with rubber for grip and non scratching hold. The holder mounts to your air vent, and is supported by gravity on a base rest. It works great, and is well made.
