Is this the best day trip from Pristina?! Just outside of Kosovo’s capital city lies one of the most heartwarming and educational family experiences — Bear Sanctuary Pristina. Just a short drive from the city, you can spend the day surrounded by nature, learning about the rescued brown bears that now call this beautiful forested space home. The Bear Sanctuary is located in Mramor, about 20 minutes from Pristina. It was founded in 2013 by the international animal welfare organization FOUR PAWS, in response to the dire conditions of privately owned “restaurant bears” that were kept in captivity across Kosovo and Albania. Today, the sanctuary is home to over 20 rescued bears, who now roam large forest enclosures with access to natural enrichment, pools, climbing structures, and even bonded bear buddies — which our kids thought was the cutest thing ever! We had such a fun, relaxing, and educational day here. The sanctuary is affordable, stroller-friendly (although we don't recommend one), and an easy half-day trip from Pristina. It's a great opportunity to support the amazing work being done to give these animals a second chance. ⏱️ Chapters 00:00 - Intro | What is Bear Sanctuary Pristina? 02:48 - Driving to Bear Sanctuary Pristina 03:07 - Exploring Bear Sanctuary Pristina 03:39 - Map of the Sanctuary 03:56 - Interactive Informational Signs 05:33 - 13 Years in 3 Minutes Interactive Exhibit 06:48 - First Bear Sighting 08:15 - Exploring a Bear Den & Sanctuary Viewpoints 09:44 - Lion & a Sleeping Bear 11:11 - More Bear Sightings 12:21 - Learning about Bears | Informational Sign 13:18 - Bonded Bears Friends 14:13 - The Oldest Bear 15:01 - Playtime at the Playground 15:56 - Wrap up of the Day | Thoughts on Bear Sanctuary Pristina 17:55 - Driving to Pristina 18:18 - Stuck in Traffic | Thoughts on Driving in the Balkans 🧸 Tips for Visiting Bear Sanctuary Pristina 1. It's about 20–25 minutes from central Pristina — perfect for a half-day trip. 2. Parking is free, admission is inexpensive, and your entry helps fund the care of the rescued bears. 3. Bring snacks or pack a picnic — there are areas to sit and relax with kids. Or you can buy lunch at their on-site restaurant - although it wasn't the best. 4. The walking trails are stroller- and kid-friendly, with plenty of shade; however, the trails are a bit steep and rocky in parts. 5. Take your time reading the signs — they explain each bear’s story and rescue background.
