Afternoon tea is one of the great British traditions — and it doesn’t get much more “royal” than this. In this video I visit The Rubens at the Palace Hotel, located directly opposite the Royal Mews of Buckingham Palace, to experience their famous Royal Afternoon Tea. With views across to the royal stables and just moments from Buckingham Palace itself, this is one of the most iconic afternoon tea locations in London. But is it actually worth it? The afternoon tea begins with a selection of freshly prepared finger sandwiches. After the sandwiches come the freshly baked plain and fruit scones, served with strawberry jam, clotted cream and lemon curd. Then finally the sweet tier arrives with four different cakes and pastries, alongside unlimited tea, allowing you to sit back and enjoy the full traditional experience. And thanks to the fact it was the cameraman’s birthday, we were also treated to some extra surprises from the kitchen. In this video I’ll show you the full experience, the food, the setting and whether this famous Royal Afternoon Tea really lives up to the reputation.
