A scene not seen since 1994, a full mainline-length revenue freight train plying westbound the Pasadena Subdivision in 2025. It's not very often a non-local revenue freight train uses the Pasadena Subdivision in its modern sense. In fact, this hasn't happened since the closure of through freight in 1994. However today, due BNSF Kaiser Yard being backed up with an influx of carload traffic, a special train was scheduled to run from Kaiser Yard to take a string of tank cars to Irwindale for short term storage. However, this was not an empty storage run, is was a fully loaded train consisting of 35 loads and a buffer car. Complemented by three full size GE road motors, this train lumbered down the line to Irwindale and then headed home as lite power. These tanks are destined for Valero, located within the BNSF Fontana Logistics Center, which takes in loads of ethanol and fuel, and could not accept this large shipment yet. In a technical sense, this means this train was the first revenue freight move to run west of Kaiser Yard that isn't a local job since 1994. I caught the train 17 times, starting my chase in Claremont at the beginning of the line, and taking it through all the way to Irwindale where the train was dropped in the Irwindale south siding, where the power then deadheaded lite back east, where I followed the train back to Claremont. This train was a real special treat for me to see, and is my favorite catch on this line by far. Thanks for watching!
