Today we're looking at a US FP-45 Liberator pistol. One million of these were made in 11 weeks by the General Motors Guide Lamp Division in 1942, for distribution to irregular forces across Axis occupied areas. These were single shot, smooth bore .45 ACP pistols designed to be an assassination weapon, wherein a resistance fighter would sneak up on an enemy soldier shoot them with the Liberator, and take their (presumably) better weapon. The enthusiasm for distributing these was never really there when it came to actual operational deployment, and the vast majority of these were destroyed at the end of WWII. Originally these guns came in a waxed paper box with the gun and 10 rounds of brass cased "FA 42" marked .45 ACP ammo, plus a wood dowel for ejecting the spent casing and a comic strip style instruction sheet, showing how the gun was to be used.
