Brijesh Solanki was a 22-year-old state-level Kabaddi player from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. A few weeks before his death, he rescued a stray puppy that had fallen into a drain. While rescuing it, the puppy bit him slightly. He did not take it seriously and did not go for any vaccination or medical check-up. After some time, he started feeling numbness in his arm but thought it was due to his Kabaddi practice and ignored it. Later, he developed serious symptoms like restlessness and fear of water. His family took him to several hospitals in Khurja, Aligarh, and Delhi, but they were either unable or unwilling to treat him for rabies. Eventually, he was diagnosed at a private hospital in Noida, where doctors confirmed that he had developed rabies symptoms. In desperation, his family decided to take him to a faith healer in Mathura, but he died on the way. After his death, health officials vaccinated many people in his village and launched an awareness drive about rabies. His case highlights that even small dog bites can be dangerous and that immediate washing of the wound and taking anti-rabies vaccination is extremely important to save lives.
