Football is a funny game. The players we all know and love, the ones we sing our praises of in the terraces, whose names we wear on our backs... we feel a connection to them. Even if we've never met, there's a certain indescribable feeling that unites us, as the players know they bring joy to so many around them. But the same people we look up to can be fickle, as players come and go. It's the nature of the game, but it doesn't make it hurt any less. In my time supporting this fine club, I have never seen a player as lovable as Kyogo Furuhashi. His movement, skills, and finishing are unlike anything we had seen in many years, and during his time at Celtic, he had quickly become a fan favorite for his actions on and off the pitch. During his time at Celtic, Kyogo appeared in 165 matches, racking up an impressive tally of 85 goals. After Celtic's 1-0 victory at home against Young Boys in the Champions League, elation gripped the green half of Glasgow as the Bhoys made it to the knockout stages of the prestigious competition for the first time in twelve years. However, that elation quickly turned to agony as just hours later, rumors began to spread that Celtic were in talks with Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais involving Kyogo. The next day, our fears became reality as Kyogo was photographed in France. Though as of January 24, 2025, the club has not yet made the official announcement of Kyogo's transfer, I fear that they are simply delaying the inevitable. I have met many Celtic supporters from various corners of the world, and have heard stories of the teary-eyed farewells at Paradise to the likes of Henrik Larsson, Kenny Dalglish, and the Lisbon Lions. The departure of Kyogo marks a time where younger generations of supporters, such as myself, will experience that gut-wrenching feeling. Thank you for the memories, Kyogo. I wish you all the best.
