Kirinyaga County Assembly Speaker Muteti Murimi has officially declared his intention to contest the Ndia Constituency parliamentary seat in the 2027 general elections, positioning himself as a seasoned political figure ready for national legislative office. Murimi made the announcement during a public empowerment forum held in Kariti Ward, an event presided over by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru. The Speaker spoke with evident confidence, citing his close association with senior government figures as proof of his political readiness. "I keep the company of the likes of President Ruto and Governor Waiguru, and I am now politically mature," Murimi declared before the gathered crowd, signalling that his time in county-level leadership has adequately groomed him for the next step. In a subtle but pointed message to the incumbent Ndia Member of Parliament, Murimi assured the sitting legislator that he harbours no intention of disrupting his current term. He said he has extended goodwill to the MP, allowing him to serve out his mandate undisturbed, a gesture he framed as political courtesy ahead of what he anticipates will be a competitive 2027 race. The Speaker also used the forum to reinforce his alignment with the national government, arguing that development can only flow to constituencies whose representatives sit on the right side of power. "We were given a mandate to serve, let us take responsibility. That is the only way we will be electable come 2027," he said, underscoring the link between government loyalty and delivery of services to constituents. Murimi pointed to flagship projects such as the Sagana Industrial Park as evidence of what government partnership can yield for Kirinyaga residents. "Developments like Sagana Industrial Park are funded by the government and are here to serve us, in employment and business. We want investors to work with locals, and therefore we must empower locals with projects like water infrastructure that will enable you to farm and sell your produce to investors, instead of them sourcing elsewhere," he said, outlining a vision centred on economic integration between local communities and incoming investors. The Speaker also took the opportunity to rally support behind Governor Waiguru's anticipated bid for a higher office, as her gubernatorial tenure approaches its constitutional limit. "As the President implements his ten-point agenda, there will be many vacant positions, ranging from Deputy President to Prime Cabinet Secretary, and we want the President to consider Waiguru," Murimi stated. He concluded his address with a rallying call for continued national government investment in the region. "We need the government to invest billions of shillings in Kirinyaga," he said, reinforcing his central campaign message that backing the ruling establishment remains the surest path to development.
