Kalām, Russell’s Teapots, and the Flying Spaghetti Monster Shaykh Hamza Karamali | Basira Education Sunday November 22nd, 2020 | 1:00 PM CST Description: New Atheists argue that evolution and atheism go hand-in-hand, that belief in God is like belief in Russell’s teapots, and that disbelief in evolution is like belief in the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Hamza Karamali will introduce these new atheist arguments and show how they are valid (and, in fact, strong) arguments against Christian theism, but how they are completely inapplicable to the Islamic theism of the traditional scholars of kalām . Biography: Hamza Karamali has studied the Islamic sciences with distinguished traditional scholars in Jordan, Kuwait, and UAE, as well as earning a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Islamic Law and Legal Theory from Jamia Nizamiyya in Hyderabad, India. He teaching and research work has been part of several organizations such as SunniPath, Qibla, the Qasid Institute, and Kalām Research & Media. As of late, his research and educational projects work around the integration of modern analytic philosophy and science with traditional Islamic theology and logic. In the summer of 2019, he founded Basira Education to fill a gap in the religious education of Muslims in the modern world — his goal at Basira is to develop a deploy an original seminary-level curriculum that is grounded in the traditional Islamic sciences but fully integrates modern science and culture into an intelligent and God-centered worldview. Darul Qasim is an institute of traditional Islamic higher learning headquartered in Glendale Heights, a suburb of Chicago, IL. It aims to offer academic services through the lens of traditional Sunni understanding — the added value that incorporates the need to procure salvation in the Hereafter.
