Rescue workers walk away STORYLINE: Rescue crews from Russia and 13 NATO countries on Wednesday began joint exercises to test their readiness to respond together to a massive terrorist strike on a chemical factory. Russia is hosting the exercise at a training ground in Noginsk, about 68 kilometers (42 miles) east of Moscow, as part of NATO's Partnership for Peace program. About 1,000 rescuers from 14 countries, including Russia, are taking part in the exercises. Observers from 16 other countries are also on the site. The main exercise will involve coordinating a multinational response to a terrorist attack at a chemical facility, including practice finding and retrieving victims from under debris. More than 165 pieces of machinery, including aircraft, will be used in the exercises, which will also involve aerial reconnaissance and testing for chemical, biological and radioactive contamination.
