Late night swatching, for a chatty, relaxed look at three types of opaque, water-based paints that come in pan form: Holbein’s Opaque Watercolour Cakes (set of 24), Holbein’s Shin-Gansai (set of 14), and Caran d’Ache’s Studio Gouache (set of 14 plus white). Which one might be the best fit for you? What do the tins look like? How do the swatches turn out? And are they actually... the same paints? NB: This is not a sponsored post – all the products you see were bought with my own money (or with birthday/festivities gift vouchers from my partner, who is the best!) over a period of time. All opinions are my own and I love all these products for different reasons and purposes. Please also note that although I did train as an artist, my training was in an entirely different field, so I am not an expert - just an enthusiast when it comes to painting/drawing. So I am just another random person with an opinion on YouTube. Hopefully this is still useful! Sorry about the audio – I'm still figuring out how to balance being spontaneous with good sound / keeping it brief, without needing to record the audio separately every time! In this video, I'm trying something new by using the sound straight from the camera, though I think it wasn't a particularly successful recording, this time, for a variety of reasons! Unfortunately, I don’t have much space, so I can’t set up a lot of equipment at once. I’ll find a solution eventually to use both my camera and my good audio setup at the same time! Or I might just keep recording voiceovers, though that's a lot of additional work. Do not worry, though. The next video is back to the "higher" "production standards" I have upheld in my previous content though! **NO FEATURED CATS IN THIS VIDEO (OTHER THAN THUMBNAIL) - BUT THEY WERE VERY MUCH PRESENT AS I WAS SWATCHING. SERIOUSLY - THEIR HAIR GETS ABSOLUTELY EVERYWHERE!! WE ARE CURRENTLY NEGOTIATING A RAISE (4 EXTRA BITS OF KIBBLE PER MEAL) SO THEIR AGENTS ADVISED THEM TO REFRAIN FROM APPEARING IN THIS VIDEO UNTIL THEIR NEW CONTRACT IS SIGNED. I PERSONALLY THINK THIS IS UNFAIR, AS AN APPEARANCE IN EVERY VIDEO WOULD MERELY BE COMPENSATION FOR DAMAGES (THEY DARE CALL THESE "CREATIVE ADDITIONS") CAUSED TO MY ARTWORK BY STRAY CAT HAIRS OVER THE YEARS , BUT SADLY THE CATS WON'T BUDGE FROM THEIR POSITION. AND THEIR POSITION UNFORTUNATELY HAPPENS TO BE ON MY LAP. HELP... I AM STUCK ON THIS CHAIR...CANNOT MOVE!!** PRODUCTS FEATURED: Holbein Opaque Watercolour Cakes – set of 24 Caran D’Ache Studio Gouache – set of 14+1 Holbein Shin-Gansai – set of 14 OTHER PRODUCTS: Meeden Watercolour brush set (synthetic – okay-ish to use or watercolour, but very aesthetic and great for gouache) Lightwish Swatch Book Silver Black Velvet travel round brush Daler Rowney filbert brush (cheap, also good for gouache) Artway A4 Watercolour CP pad (from Amazon.
