Disciples should love God, love others and make disciples. Disciples should love God. Matthew 22:37-39 37 And He said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 “This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 “The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ We should love God with the entirety of our being. We should love God as commanded. The Ten Commandments Love God Exodus 20 3  “You shall have no other gods before Me. 4 “You shall not make for yourself an idol… 7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain… 8 “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy… Love Others 12 “Honor your father and your mother… 13 “You shall not murder. 14 “You shall not commit adultery. 15 “You shall not steal. 16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 17 “You shall not covet… We should love God with obedience. 1 John 5:3 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. Disciples should love other believers. John 13:34-35 34 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” We should love other believers because we know God. 1 John 4:7-8 7  Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. We should love other believers like God loved us. 1 John 4:9-11 9 By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. Disciples should love neighbors. Luke 10:30-37 30 Jesus replied and said, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, and they stripped him and beat him, and went away leaving him half dead. 31 “And by chance a priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32 “Likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 “But a Samaritan, who was on a journey, came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion, 34 and came to him and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and he put him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 “On the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return I will repay you.’ 36 “Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers’ hands?” 37 And he said, “The one who showed mercy toward him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same.” We should love neighbors by showing compassionate, sacrificial mercy. Disciples should love enemies. We should prayerfully seek God’s good for those opposed to God. Matthew 5:44-45 44 “But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. We should act to help those opposed to God. Exodus 23:4-5 4  “If you meet your enemy’s ox or his donkey wandering away, you shall surely return it to him. 5 “If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying helpless under its load, you shall refrain from leaving it to him, you shall surely release it with him. Disciples should make disciples. Matthew 28:19-20 We should respond to Jesus’ authority. 28:18 18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. We should invite others to follow Jesus. 28:19a 19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, We should immerse disciples in relationship with the Lord. 28:19b baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, We should teach disciples to observe all that is commanded. 28:20a 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; We should depend on the presence of the Lord. 28:20b and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
