I replaced the expansion valve and condenser of the A/C system on the 2012 Mazda 5. My A/C was blowing warm air. The manifold gauge showed that the low-pressure line was going into the negative whenever the compressor kicked in, so I suspected that there was blockage either in the condenser or the expansion valve. I went to a shop and had them recover/evacuate the refrigerant. A lot of the shops wanted to charge me the same amount that they charge for a full evac and recharge (about $70). I shopped around and found a place that would recover the refrigerant for only $20. I replaced the condenser (with built-in dryer) but I did not have enough footage to make a video for it. There are other videos available in YT for similar cars. I believe the condenser was the culprit because it had visible damage. But while my A/C system was empty I figured I may as well replace the expansion valve ($12 part). In some cars the expansion valve is in the engine bay attached to the firewall. In the Mazda 5, it is inside under the dashboard. After replacing the condenser and expansion valve, I used a vacuum pump test for leaks (no loss of vacuum for 45 mins) and also remove moisture (ran it for a couple of hours). And then I charged it with plain R134a without oil or additives. Prior, I added 1.5oz of dyed PAG46 oil to the compressor to compensate for the oil that remained in the old parts that were replaced.
