The Nuggets forced Steph Curry to activate night night mode. And this is what happened… Curry and Gordon put up monster numbers in the Bay Area spectacle. And the Finals rematch totally exceeded our expectations. The Thunder and the Pacers battled into a double overtime which even saw some controversy at the end, but we gotta start in San Francisco, where the Warriors hosted Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets. However, out of all people it was Aaron Gordon who stole the spotlight in the 1st half. AG pulled out his best Curry impersonation and casually drained all 7 of his shots from downtown, putting the Nuggets up by 14 late in the 2nd quarter. But they were careless on the other end to allow 3 quick buckets in transition. Denver’s lead was cut to 9 points heading into the locker rooms, and the trend continued in the 2nd half as the real chef started to heat up. Maaan, we know he’s a certified sniper, but he also has one of the deepest bags of circus shots the game has ever seen. C’Mon! With 13 points in the period, Steph led his team right back into the game, and they actually took over the lead with this 3 by the good ol’ Horford. Big Al fits perfectly in the roster, and judging only by these 2 games so far, they have all the right pieces they need to go deep into the playoffs. They just need to stay healthy. Regardless, the Nuggets got right back on top thanks to this guy right here. Aaron went berserk last night! Whether it was him catching lobs, shooting 3’s, swishing fadeaways or muscling his way to the rim, it seemed so natural to him. And just like that, he got Denver up by 9 points again. But, he wasn’t the only one in the mood for doing special things. Look at the baby face assassin blowing past defenders like he’s 23 or something… He was causing all sorts of headaches to whoever tried to guard him during the night. And when crunchtime arrives, you better watch out. Oo Oooh he pulls out the shimmy, it’s getting hot in here! But, guess who’s been hot all night as well… You heard that right! Gordon was unconscious from beyond the arc, shooting 10 for 11 for a career high 50 points in the season’s opener. That’s astonishing! Unfortunately for him, this is still - Curry’s building… Oh my goodness! Steph ties the game with the deeep 3 for an absolute madness in the arena. And he was pumped up to the max! Does this dude age like the rest of us? Unreal. Denver had the last possession though, and a great chance to win the game. A signature 2 man game by Murray and Jokic who just comes up short and we go to overtime. And at this point, this isn’t fair to be honest. Get this, Curry scored the last 16 points for Golden State. He’s a one man wrecking crew! Speaking of that, AG couldn’t be stopped either! Gordon played his heart out for Denver, just to keep them in the game. On the contrary, the Joker struggled mightily in this game, at least for his standards. Put aside the triple double, he shot just 8 of 23 from the field for a total of 21 points. (OT 1:50 filer) And when you miss the opportunity to convert on 2 straight occasions in the clutch, the punishment is set to arrive. It was Jimmy Butler who drained the dagger at the end, as Curry signals him it’s time to pull the night night celebration. Nikola Jokic tried to respond on the other end, but missed yet another shot, cementing his team’s chances of a possible comeback. The Warriors open the season with 2 big wins over 2 direct rivals from the western conference, and I can’t wait to see how they progress into the season. Moving on to Indiana for another wild finish between 2 short-handed teams, as both OKC and Indy were missing some key players. However, that didn’t stop them from putting on a show for the fans. Trading blow for blow in the 4th quarter with the crowd going wild, it was like watching a replay of the finals. Walker puts the Pacers up by 1 with a minute to go, but fouls Holmgren on the other end who stays cool on the foul line and retakes the lead for OKC. Down by 1 with 20 seconds to go, Indy goes to their best player. Siakam misses everything, and now they must foul. They send Shai to the line who knocks down the first one, but misses the 2nd to keep the drama going! Spicy P shakes off Holmgren and drills the game tying bucket, redeeming himself for the previous brick. But, the Thunder have 6 seconds left to make it happen. Good defense by Indy, double-teaming Shai up top as his shot comes short, and we’re in for another overtime. Let’s go! With J-Dub on the bench, as well as Cason Wallace and Isiah Joe, SGA needed a scoring partner to help him out in the clutch, and he found one in Ajay Mitchell. The sophomore Mitchell played great, all night long, putting up 26 points and 4 assists off the bench. And he kept his nerves cool late in the extra period from the free throw line as well. And when winning time comes, you know who’s got the ball.
