Thien Thanh Thi Nguyen was born on October 24, 1981. Although her parents are Vietnamese and she was born in Singapore, she moved with her family to Houston, Texas when she was very young. She describes her childhood as quite rough and poor, something that made her dream of one day being rich and famous. When Tila was 19, she was discovered by a Playboy talent scout at a shopping mall. Soon after, she moved to Los Angeles and entered the modeling industry - more precisely, modeling for men’s magazines. She took the nickname Tila Tequila, which, according to her, came into existence when she was around 13 years old and she was “experimenting with alcohol.” By 2002, Tila had become one of Playboy’s cybergirls of the week. Soon after that, she became the first Asian cybergirl of the month and went on to pose in various pictorials for the magazine. But her big career boost was still around the corner. In 2003, Tila joined MySpace and filled her profile with risque songs and bikini photos. Almost overnight, she gained over 30 million views. In 2006, Time magazine deemed her the “queen of the social media platform.” She responded to Time with something in the terms of, “of course I am, because I am approachable. There’s a million hot naked chicks on the Internet. There’s a difference between those girls and me. Those chicks don’t talk back to you." In 2007, Tila made the headlines when she created an MTV reality competition, A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila. The premise of the show was that 16 men and 16 women would compete to be Tila’s partner. At the end of the first episode, Tila revealed something, to everyone’s surprise: "I never told anyone this before. I’m a bisexual." Despite criticism from conservative media outlets, the show continued to run for two whole seasons. It even spawned a variety of spin-offs: That’s Amore!, A Double Shot at Love, and Double Shot at Love with DJ Pauly and Vinny. The saddest part of this show was that it was all a scam. A source told PageSix that Tila was never bisexual or a lesbian. "She’s made out with some girls in her past, as all girls have, but she is not bi at all." Not only did Tila lie about her orientation, she never dated the winner of the show, Bobby Banhart. Tila posted in January 2008 that she and Bobby were no longer dating.
