Researchers from Upstate took the top prize in a State University of New York competition for startup business pitches. They want to change how corneal injuries and the scarring that can lead to vision loss are treated. Audrey Bernstein, PhD, explains the project in this interview. She is a professor of ophthalmology and visual sciences, biochemistry and molecular biology and cell and developmental biology at Upstate, and she is a co-founder of the DUB Biologics startup with Tere Williams, who is a PhD candidate at Upstate. “The Informed Patient” is a podcast that covers health, science and medicine, featuring experts from Central New York’s only academic medical center. Upstate Medical University has four colleges (Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions and Graduate Studies); a robust research enterprise; and an extensive clinical health care system that extends way beyond Syracuse.
